Hans Raj Hans enthrals MPs with poetry, highlights drug menace in Punjab
New Delhi, July 3: BJP Lok Sabha member from North West Delhi Hans Raj Hans wowed members of Parliament with poetry and couplets on Wednesday, which drew praise even from the opposition benches. Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Farooq Abdullah were seen thumping their desks in appreciation.
Speaking during a session on Sufism and poetry, Hans Raj said: "What is Sufism? “Sufism is this”, and recited a poem: 'Mitti hai toh pal bhar mein bikhar jaayenge hum log (if we are dust, we will scatter in no time). Khushboo hain toh har mehfil ko mehkaayenge hum log (if we are fragrance, we will spread it everywhere). Hum rooh-e-safar hain, humein naamon se na pehchaan (We are travelling souls, don't give us names) Kal aur kisi naam se aa jaayenge hum log (We will come with some other name tomorrow)'.
Despite winning the election from North West Delhi, Hans Raj Hans highlighted the plight of his home state Punjab, saying that at one time Punjab was leading the country in every parameter but now the state is a pale shadow of its former self.
“First terrorism and then drug menace ensnared the youth of the state, who were at one time the pride of the nation,” lamented the Sufi singer, who was born in a village in Jalandhar district.
“Even in Delhi, school-going kids are hooked on to drugs, which are being openly sold near educational institutes,” he added.
He appealed to the parliamentarians saying that to save the future of the country, we need to save the youth.
Hans Raj Hans also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving attention to the poor.
“He is the first prime minister in the history of our country who is genuinely concerned about the poor and has taken concrete steps to alleviate their suffering,” Hans Raj Hans said.
