Health Deptt conducts surprise check at sweet vendors, takes 8 samples

Ferozepur, August 9, 2022: : The District Health Department team conducted, on Tuesday, surprise checking of sweet vendors and eight samples were filled and sent for testing to the State Food Laboratory at Kharar.
The checking was done under directions of DC Amrit Singh, Dr.Anil Kumar Civil Surgeon by a team of Dr.Harkirat Singh, designated officer Food Safety and Hrvinder Singh, Food Safety officer in the city and cantonment areas.
The Punjab Government has put the Food Safety Campaign under Tandrust Punjab Mission on a fast track by roping in another laboratory for the analysis of samples of food articles being collected during the state-wide inspections. The Health Department is committed to providing quality food to the people and by sampling drive of food products under Mission Tandrust Punjab by tightening the noose against those involved in food adulteration.
In the past also, artificially ripened fruits were also destroyed and awareness seminars to sensitize the vendors against artificially ripening are being held from time to time.
The surprise checking has been conducted under the campaign of Mission Tandrust Punjab and legal action would be taken against the guilty under Food Safety Standard Act 2006, said Harvinder Singh, Food Safety Officer. So far Rs.73,000 has been fined by the courts in different cases, he added.
He also directed the shopkeepers to pay special attention to cleanliness and also apply for food licenses, registration numbers under the Food Safety Standards Act 2006. He also asked the food business operators to follow the instructions given for the prevention of Covid- 19 and to get their staff vaccinated.
