SBS Tech Campus employees protest over non-payment of salary
Ferozepur, November 19, 2020: Due to non-payment of SC-BC Scholarship grant and grant since 2001 to Shaheed Bhagat Singh Technical Campus, Ferozepur has disturbed its budget as around 354 employees have not been paid wages for the last three months.
The entire staff has gone on sit-in dharna in front of the Campus even on the third day with the result the study of the students who have joined after a long period due to lockdown in the wake of Corona pandemic, is likely to be affected. However, the teaching staff had been taking online classes during the lockdown period.
The wages to both teaching and non-teaching staff of 354 on the roll – 133 teaching, 123 echnical and office staff and 98 security guards - have been held up. The college has around Rs.1.70 crop salary bill for every month.
Staff members said it is very difficult to cope with the household affairs in the absence of wages, especially who are single earning hand as we have exhausted the funds kept for even rainy season.
Sandeep Mishra, Mechanical Diploma and Sourabh Tomar student said, we are surprised over the attitude of the college management and government as we are in a fix as to whether stay in the campus or go back to their homes.
It is very fortunate that the government has not released any grant to the college since 2001 and not even released the SC-BC Scholarship Bill of Rs.4 crore.
Director Campus,, T.S.Sidhu said, we are in touch with the senior officers of the government and apprised about the present financial position of the institution and non-payment of SC-BC Scholarship Bill of Rs.4 crore and non-release of any grant since 2001.
The government should also think about increasing the admission in government colleges ahead of the private colleges in the State, on priority for its survival as presently majority of the admission is under SC-BC Scholarship Scheme, said the staff members sitting on dharna demanding early release of wages.
