'Arushi: Umeed Ki Kiran' training programe for Educational and Vocational Guidance counselors organised by DSLSA
New Delhi, September 17, 2023: Delhi State Legal Services Authority along with Central and West District Legal Services Authorities organized training programme 'Arushi: Umeed Ki Kiran' for Educational and Vocational Guidance counsellors.
During this training programme, the EVGCs who regularly perform duties in schools of Delhi have been imparted basic legal knowledge so that they can further impart the same to the students of their schools.
"DSLSA along with Central and West DLSAs have constantly made attempts to reach out to children through as many modes as possible, in a child-friendly manner and at places most accessible to them," read the press statement issued by DSLA.
‘Educational and Vocational Guidance Counsellors (EVGCs)’ play an important role in shaping children and in helping them navigate difficult situations.
Secretaries of West and Central DLSAs interacted with Mr. Himanshu Gupta, Director, Directorate of Education, GNCTD, Dr.Neeraj, Deputy Director of Education (EVGC), GNCTD as well as with some EVGCs.
Here are few highlights of the interactions;
• Students may approach EVGCs on their own or may be referred to them by teachers of the school or by the Principal. They also conduct workshops and group counselling sessions on a regular basis.
• Many children approach them with academic, emotional and behavioral issues and upon delving deeper into them, they have realized that the underlying cause of many such issues are socio-legal problems like domestic violence, drug abuse, physical and sexual abuse of children and lack of awareness and affordable access to justice.
• The EVGCs did not undergo training on legal subjects upon their induction which limits their ability to help out in case of problems requiring legal solutions.
• Some of the subjects that the EVGCs require to be trained on are right to free legal services, laws relating to children, laws relating to women, introduction to criminal, civil and cyber safety laws.
