SBS State University students attend one-day workshop on Vermi-composting
Ferozepur, February 15, 2024: Under the 'Skill Development and Entrepreneurship' initiative by Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University (SBSSU) - Ferozepur, a one-day workshop on Vermicomposting was conducted in collaboration with Saanvi Enterprises, Ferozepur, specifically designed for students pursuing B.Sc in Agriculture and B.Sc in Environmental Science.
Vermicomposting, an eco-friendly method, showcased its potential to convert organic waste, including cow dung and other excrements, into a valuable natural fertilizer known as ‘Vermicompost’. The process involves the use of earthworms to transform waste into nutrient-rich manure.
Students were actively engaged in hands-on training on the vermicompost manufacturing process, guided by Amit Tandon, the owner of Saanvi Enterprises. Tandon not only elucidated the technical aspects but also highlighted the entrepreneurial opportunities within vermicomposting, emphasizing its contribution to environmental sustainability.
Dr.Rajiv Arora, the Head of the Agriculture Department at SBS State University, Ferozepur, shared that following the comprehensive training, students from the Agriculture department have committed to establishing six Vermi-beds within the university. Additionally, a research project will be initiated to enhance phosphorus content in vermin-compost. Technical Incharge, Manjit Singh Bajwa, encouraged students to embrace organic farming as a means to eliminate harmful chemicals from the environment. Dr.Gazalpreet Singh, Registrar, expressed gratitude to Amit Tandon for providing valuable training to the students.
