-Pb Govt. is making sincere efforts for the promotion of Mother Tongue: Gagandeep Singh
- The root of every phenomenon is 'word' - Dr. Sevak Singh
- The need for a scientific perspective to understand language and speech - Dr Jalaur Singh Khiva
Speaking on the occasion, Gagandeep Singh said that the Punjab government is making very sincere efforts for the promotion and propagation of the mother tongue and we all should work in the Punjabi language with due regard for our responsibility and also give it due respect. Impressed by the views of the speakers present, Gagandeep Singh said that this event was very important for me as I got an opportunity to understand many new concepts about the mother tongue.
Thanking DLO Ferozepur, Principal, Dr. Sunil Khosla said that it is a matter of pride for us to organize such a meaningful and valuable event on the college campus.
While introducing the history of IML-Day and welcoming the guests, DLO Dr. Jagdeep Sandhu said that such events are rare in history, when people give martyrdom for their mother tongue and he salutes to martyrs in Dacca (Bangladesh), who sacrificed for their mother tongue. He said that the characteristic of the Punjabi language is that words of any language can appear in it, due to which the future of this language is very bright. Punjabi is a language that has a special word for each relationship, concept or phenomenon named according to its practical meaning.
Dr. Sevak Singh key-note speaker, talked about the importance of 'Shabd' from a spiritual point of view after giving several important statements and comments saying that 'Shabd' is divine from which all phenomena originate. Understanding grammar in a broad sense, he said that the entire phenomenon is bound up in a grammar in which language, speech and human living, genes come. Quoting Ferdinand de Saussure, Ludwig Wittgenstein and Benjamin Whorf Lee, he said that there must be a philosophical understanding to understand language and speech, but many thinkers have tried to understand this philosophical understanding according to a mechanistic process. Since language and speech are connected with human life behaviour, its place can be found only from a philosophical point of view.
Expressing concern about the future situation, he said that 'vision' is becoming bigger than 'word' while 'word' is the root. Without understanding it, we cannot understand any phenomenon in the right sense.
Eminent language and cultural scientist Dr Jalaur Singh Khiva said in his presidential speech that a scientific vision is needed to understand language and speech. The creators of language and speech are 'people'. We should not feel inferior while speaking in our mother tongue and should express ourselves openly in our mother tongue free from the influence of any trauma. He gave symbolic suggestions to understand many subtle phenomena of Punjabi culture in a very simple way concerning folk dialects and folk literature.
College students Gagandeep Kaur, Sonia, Rajbir and Kulwinder Singh enthralled the audience by reciting their poems related to their mother tongue. English subject teacher Parminder Singh, who came especially on this occasion, praised the initiative of the language department in a very emotional manner and said that conducting this event in an area like Guruharsahai is a very meaningful initiative. The master-of-ceremony event was performed nicely by Assistant Prof. Dr. Gurdeep Singh.
