Ferozepur, 26-10-2024: The Economics Department, in collaboration with the Post-Graduate Zoology Department and the Dev Samaj College for Women (DSCW) library, organized a 'Student Enrichment Program.' This event aimed to enhance students' access to and proficiency in using digital resources for academic research and economic studies.
Alka, in charge of Library Science, introduced the Koha software, an open-source integrated library system widely used in academic libraries globally. She explained that Koha was initially developed by the Horowhenua Library Trust in New Zealand in 1999, with its first implementation on January 3, 2000. Sandhya, Arts Library in-charge, emphasized that the software is managed by a global team of library technology professionals, enabling students to easily search books through its Web OPAC feature.
The workshop provided practical exposure to Koha's functionalities, teaching students how to navigate it and utilize economic resources effectively. By blending theoretical insights with practical tasks, participants gained valuable skills in navigating digital databases and deepened their understanding of digital research tools' role in academic work.
During the session, Principal Dr. Sangeeta highlighted the benefits of Koha software for students' academic pursuits and emphasized the need for regular workshops to strengthen students’ digital proficiency.
She, along with Economics Department Head Dr. Sangeeta Arora, Zoology Department Head Dr. Mokshi, Library Science In-charge Alka, and Arts Library In-charge Sandhya, received appreciation for the program's successful organization. Chairman Shriman Nirmal Singh Dhillon extended his best wishes to the team for their dedicated efforts.
