Ludhiana, October 28, 2024: Keeping in view the growing concerns of the Punjab farmers regarding the shortage of Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) fertilizer, the soil scientists of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) have suggested alternate sources of phosphatic fertilizers as step towards rederessal of Punjab farmers’ woes.
Dr Dhanwinder Singh, Head of, Department of Soil Science, said that DAP was the most common fertilizer input used in the rice-wheat system.
Farmers preferred DAP over other P fertilizers as the former provided high P fertilizer, supplied 18 per cent nitrogen, and was easily available during the previous years, he observed.
Since the farmers were worried currently due to the shortage of DAP fertilizer in the market, there were many fertilizers available that could be used as an alternate source of phosphorus, he advised.
Further, Dr Singh urged the farmers to apply the below-mentioned fertilizers for immediate use, rather than getting disheartened over the unavailability of DAP.
The equivalent dose of phosphorus content supplied by these fertilizers was also given in the table.
