New Delhi, September 16, 2025: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has intensified its probe into a major money laundering case linked to illegal online betting apps. After targeting several cricketers, the agency has now brought Bollywood actors under its scanner.
Former cricketers Yuvraj Singh and Robin Uthappa, along with actor Sonu Sood, have been summoned for questioning. Uthappa has been called on September 22, Yuvraj Singh on September 23, and Sonu Sood on September 24 at the ED headquarters in Delhi.
The investigation is focused on platforms like 1xBet, which are accused of large-scale tax evasion and money laundering. Officials are probing how much money celebrities received for promoting these apps and their role in the alleged network.
Earlier, cricketers Suresh Raina and Shikhar Dhawan were also questioned, while film stars including Mimi Chakraborty, Ankush Hazra, and Urvashi Rautela have come under scrutiny. Urvashi, reportedly a brand ambassador of 1xBet, has been summoned but has not yet appeared.
With India’s online betting market estimated at over USD 100 billion and growing rapidly, the ED believes these illegal platforms are not only cheating people of crores but also inflicting significant losses on the national economy. More big names are expected to surface as the probe continues.
