54 liquor smugglers arrested in the whole district and 60 cases registered in 6 days

Moga, August 7, 2020 -Following the recent liquor tragedy, the District Moga Police has tightened the noose against the illicit liquor traders. In the last six days, 60 cases have been registered and 54 smugglers have been nabbed. In addition, helpline numbers have been issued to get information about illegal traders.
Disclosing this here today Senior Superintendent of Police Mr Harmanbir Singh Gill said that no illegal business would be allowed in Moga district. He said that ever since this tragedy took place in Tarn Taran, Sri Amritsar Sahib and Gurdaspur districts, the crackdown on such businessmen has been tightened in Moga district. He said that since August 1, 60 cases have been registered and 54 persons have been arrested. Out of these, 531.09 litres of licit liquor, 370.38 litres of illicit domestic liquor and 2655 kg of lahan were recovered from them.
He said that since the opening of the liquor vends, 211 cases related to this illegal business have been registered and 196 people have been arrested.
Mr Gill also issued two helpline numbers for the residents of Moga district on which people could contact to provide information about such traders. He said that if any person gets information about any such illegal business then he can contact on 9780001879 and 112. The details of the informant will be kept completely confidential. He hoped that the people of district Moga would continue to support the police during the COVID 19 epidemic in the future as well. He said that district police was always available to serve the people.
