Captain Amarinder
Chandigarh, November 22, 2016: Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh has lashed out at AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal for demeaning and humiliating the youth of Punjab by suggesting that they would sell their votes in exchange of drugs during the coming Assembly elections.
Reacting to Kejriwal’s reprehensible and insensitive statement that the Congress would offer the youth packets of drugs in exchange of votes in the polls, Captain Amarinder said the comment was typical of the despicable mindset of the AAP leader, who had become notorious for his insensitive and provocative remarks. So obsessed is he with trying desperately to woo the voters of Punjab, a large chunk of whom is constituted of youth, that he does not think twice before ridiculing and damning even the innocent victims of the Badals’ conspiracy to loot the state, said the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president.
“First the Badal-led Akali government destroyed the lives of tens of thousands youth of Punjab by spreading drug addiction among them, and now Kejriwal has come to crush their spirit further by suggesting that they would sell their precious votes for drugs,” Captain Amarinder said, coming down heavily on both, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), for misleading the youth of the state.
The frivolity with which Kejriwal has tried to link the youth with drugs bespeaks his total lack of concern over the grave issue of drug menace in the state, the Punjab Congress president said, adding that only a depraved mindset can think of linking drugs with votes in this sickening manner.
“Have you no moral sense? Are you so fixated on votes that you can’t see beyond them, and are willing even to destroy the last vestige of self-respect among the youth,” Captain Amarinder asked the AAP leader.
“You don’t speak when you should, as in the SYL matter, but put your foot in your mouth when you should keep quiet,” Captain Amarinder said, taking a dig at Kejriwal’s deafening silence on the critical issue of SYL and questioning his intellectual maturity to handle a political party that had its sights on ruling Punjab.
Captain Amarinder also lashed out at Kejriwal’s futile attempts to invoke the names of martyrs such as Shaheed Bhagat Singh to promote his vested political interests. “Is there no level to which you would not stoop in your desperation to grab whatever few votes you can,” asked the PPCC President.
“Your party has already been wiped out of existence in Punjab, even before the official declaration of the polls. Your refusal, however, to acknowledge this bitter truth is evident in your frustrated attempts to resort to whatever gimmickry you can in order to continue to mislead the voters of Punjab,” said Captain Amarinder, adding that the people of Punjab would not be taken in by such cheap tactics.
The protests by AAP workers at your rallies is proof enough that you have completely lost your credibility in Punjab and have been thoroughly exposed, in the eyes of the people of the state as well as your own party, as a selfish and self-centered leader who only has his own interests at heart.
