Jalandhar (Punjab), December 10, 2024: Reacting sharply to the SGPC executive committee resolution seeking excommunication of Narain Singh Chaura from the community, the Dal Khalsa said by doing so, the current leadership of the SGPC has set a bad precedent that will have an adverse affect on the entire community and may deepen wedge between moderate and hardliner Sikhs.
It is pertinent to mention that SGPC executive led by its president Harjinder Singh Dhami has handed over the committee resolution to Jathedar of Akal Takht Giani Raghbir Singh to excommunicate Narain Singh, who attacked senior SAD leader Sukhbir Singh Badal outside the Golden Temple on December 3.
The organisation categorically stated that Sikhs spread globally will neither accept nor tolerate any decision to excommunicate Narain Singh.
The leaders requested Takhat Jathedars not to succumb to "game-plan" of Badal’s via SGPC. Elaborating on it, the leaders said Akalis want to nullify the respect and goodwill Jathedars have earned courtesy their Dec 2 verdict. They declared that on December 18, they will meet Takhat Jathedars to convey the Panthic sentiments to them.
Dal Khalsa leaders Harpal Singh Cheema, Paramjit Singh Mand and Kanwarpal Singh said that during the heydays of Sikh struggle, Akal Takht head Giani Kirpal Singh in Jan 1985, Head Granthi of Darbar Sahib Gaini Sahib Singh in Nov 1985, Akali Dal President Harcharan Singh Longowal in 1985, Jathedar Jagdev Singh Talwandi in 1988 and SGPC President Gurcharan Singh Tohra in May 1990 were attacked by militants, out of which Sant Longowal fell to the bullets and rest of them, escaped unhurt.
They further said the attackers involved in all these attacks were well-known militants of the Sikh struggle who took responsibility for the attacks and explained the reasons behind their actions, but no one was excommunicated from the community nor anyone asked for the same.
Dal Khalsa leader Paramjit Singh Mand stated that Narain Singh is under police custody, the law will take its course.
"We have no regrets about it, however, our objections are how Akali leaders were twisting the incident to gain sympathy and tarnish Narain Singh’s image. We are one hundred percent sure, there’s no conspiracy angle. Narain Singh is a diehard Panthic by heart, it looks what he did was out of pain and hurt sentiments," he added.
