Tarn Taran (Punjab), May 12, 2025 – Despite the Punjab government's ongoing crackdown on drug abuse, another tragic case has emerged from Dhotian village in Tarn Taran district, where a young man lost his life to drug addiction.
The youth’s body was found in the paddy market area of Patti, triggering shock and grief in the locality. Police reached the scene shortly after being informed and took the body into custody.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the cause of death was drug overdose. The body has been sent for postmortem.
Mother Alleges Inaction by Authorities
The victim’s mother has made serious allegations, claiming that certain women in the village have been openly selling drugs for a long time, but no meaningful action was ever taken by the police or local administration.
"Had the authorities acted in time, my son would still be alive," she said through tears.
System Under Scrutiny
The incident has reignited public anger and concern over the persistent drug menace in Punjab’s rural belt. While the administration continues to highlight efforts to curb the drug trade, incidents like these cast a shadow over their claims and raise critical questions about enforcement on the ground.
At present, the police have launched an investigation and are recording statements from the family. Dhotian village remains in mourning, with residents calling for stronger action and accountability to prevent such tragedies in the future.
