Chandigarh (BB) - With five more candidates withdrawing their names from the Hisar parliamentary byelection, the number of contestants came down to 40 on the last day of withdrawal of nominations on Thursday. Those left in the fray include three candidates of recognised national and state-level political parties, including the HJC(BL), Indian National Congress and Indian National Lok Dal, six candidates of registered political parties other than recognised parties, including Lok Jan Shakti Party, Bharatiya Sant Mat Party, Lok Parivartan Party(DC), Dalit Kranti Dal, Republican Backward Congress and Samast Bharatiya Party, and 31 Independents, an official release said. DGP REPLIES TO INLD COMPLAINT The Haryana director general of police, in his reply to the state election department on a complaint lodged by the INLD pertaining to alleged violation of model code of conduct, said on Thursday that superintendent of police Vivek Sharma, who had recently been transferred to Hisar from Fatehabad, was a nephew of Haryana Congress MLA and assembly speaker Kuldeep Sharma. Stating that Sharma was an outstanding officer, he said there had not been any specific complaint against the SP. About the INLD\'s complaint against the appointment of a retired IPS officer, Ram Singh Bishnoi, as a trainer for a year, the police department said there had been no complaint against him as well. The reply has been sent to the Election Commission of India. SHOPS TO REMAIN CLOSE ON OCTOBER 13 All shops in Uchana Kalan, Adampur, Uklana, Narnaund, Hansi, Barwala, Hisar, Nalwa and Bawani Khera assembly segments of Hisar Lok Sabha seat will remain closed on October 13 to enable employees to cast vote. Satwanti Ahlawat, special secretary (labour), said the orders were issued under Punjab Shops and Commercial Establishment Act, 1958.
