If families refuse, these NGOs offer to perform last rites of Corona victims

Ludhiana, April 11, 2020: In the wake of a recent shocking incident of an old woman, who had sided of Coronavirus and whose family refused to cremate her, NGOs have come forward to offer voluntary service of performing the last rites of such victims.
One such city-based organization Maa Baglamukhi Dham operating from Singla Enclave, Pakhowal Road, Ludhiana approached Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana offering this service on humanitarian ground for any person succumbing to the deadly virus.
According to Parveen Choudhary, Mukh Sewadar, they have been asked by the spiritual head of the Dham Mahant Yogi Satyanath Ji Maharaj to undertake responsibility of performing the last rites of the deceased according to their respective religious faith.
Appreciating the gesture, MC Commissioner, Kanwalpreet Kaur Brar said the NGO voluntarily approached the administration with this voluntary offer. As of now, two organizations have come forward for the purpose. Another one is a group of four youths led by Mandeep Keshav. All of them are from Rishi Nagar locality of the city.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Brar and Mayor Balkar Singh Sandhu have appealed to the city residents to obey the government order and stay indoors to check the spread of the virus.
To deal with any unforeseen eventuality, MC authorities have made adequate arrangements. On Friday, Brar visited the crematorium opposite Dholewal Military Complex to take stock of the arrangements. This crematorium is meant for cremating unclaimed bodies in case the family of the deceased refuses to perform the last rites.
The management bodies of all the 22 cremation grounds within the municipal limits have assured all required cooperation in the larger public interest, she added.
