PSBCC Chairman Dr Thind calls for wider awareness of schemes
No eligible person should be deprived of benefits: Dr. Thind
Ferozepur, October 13, 2025: To review the implementation of welfare schemes for backward classes, Dr. Malkit Singh Thind, Chairman of the Punjab State Backward Classes Commission (PSBCC), held a special meeting with officials of the District Welfare Office and various other departments at the DC Office, Ferozepur, Assistant Commissioner Gurdev Singh Dhamma, was also present on the occasion.
Dr. Thind directed the officers to ensure that all eligible people from backward classes are fully informed about the state and central government’s welfare schemes. He emphasized that no needy person should be deprived of benefits such as grants or backward class certificates, adding that the Punjab government is committed to the welfare of every section of the backward classes.
He further instructed officials to spread awareness at the village and ward levels about schemes such as the Shagun Scheme, scholarships, and the issuance of backward class certificates, so that beneficiaries can access the facilities without difficulty.
Listening to the grievances of people belonging to backward classes, Dr. Thind directed departments to resolve their issues on priority and warned that strict action would be taken against officers found discriminating in the delivery of benefits. He also asked departments to display notices outside their offices, detailing the benefits available for backward classes, to ensure transparency and accessibility.
On this occasion, Social Justice and Empowerment Officer Gurmeet Singh Brar, along with officials, employees from various departments, and representatives of backward class communities, were present.
