Amritsar (Punjab), November 17, 2025: Panic spread in Amritsar on Friday evening after the body of a 30-year-old woman was found inside Room No. 104 of Khullar Guest House. The police were alerted by the hotel staff, following which Inspector Balwinder Singh reached the spot with his team, called in the forensic unit and conducted a detailed examination of the room. The crime scene was also videographed.
The deceased has been identified as Veerpal Kaur. Police have sent the body to the Civil Hospital mortuary for post-mortem. Based on the statement of her brother, Inderjit Singh, a murder case has been registered against the woman’s alleged partner, Gurmeet Singh alias Dharm, for strangling her to death.
According to the family, Veerpal Kaur had been in an illicit relationship with Gurmeet Singh, a resident of her in-laws’ village Gawar. This had caused frequent disputes between her and her husband.
Due to ongoing tensions, Veerpal had been living at her parental home for the past three months. On November 14, she left the house around 10 am saying she was going to her in-laws’ home to collect clothes, but she did not return.
Later in the evening, the family received a phone call informing them that Veerpal Kaur had been killed and her body was lying in Khullar Guest House.
The family alleges that Gurmeet Singh strangled her to death. He has been absconding since the incident. Police have registered a case and launched a search to trace the accused.
