Amid escalating tensions at the border, the Punjab Government has cancelled all previously approved leaves for IAS and PCS officers across the state. In an urgent directive issued by the Department of Personnel (IAS Branch) on May 9, 2025, it has been made clear that no officer will be permitted to take any form of leave or leave their place of posting without the explicit approval of the Chief Secretary, Punjab.
The official memorandum, signed by Gurpreet Kaur Sapra, IAS, Secretary Personnel, emphasizes that the decision has been taken to ensure full preparedness for emergency response in view of the current situation. "All leaves approved so far stand cancelled," the notification reads, further stating that these instructions are effective immediately.
The government has also cautioned that any officer violating this directive may face appropriate action under relevant rules.
This step is seen as part of the state’s broader measures to maintain administrative readiness and ensure effective governance during the ongoing border situation.
