Punjab sets May 15 deadline for Rangla Punjab works; Harpal Cheema orders strict monitoring

Chandigarh, April 15, 2026: Punjab Finance and Planning Minister Harpal Singh Cheema on Wednesday directed all Deputy Commissioners to ensure completion of development works under the first phase of the Rangla Punjab Vikas Scheme by May 15, 2026.
Chairing a high-level review meeting, Cheema emphasised that adequate funds have been allocated for the scheme and confirmed that financial resources for the second phase have also been released. He instructed district administrations to utilise funds efficiently and adhere strictly to timelines, asserting that there is no shortage of resources.
To ensure quality execution, the minister mandated regular field visits by departmental officers to monitor progress and maintain standards on the ground. For projects that may extend beyond the deadline, officials have been asked to submit revised timelines immediately.
Reinforcing transparency, Chief Secretary KAP Sinha directed the appointment of nodal officers in each district to upload real-time progress updates on the Rangla Punjab Portal. He also instructed officials to undergo training by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) for effective digital reporting.
Senior officials from multiple departments and Deputy Commissioners from across Punjab attended the meeting, reviewing progress and outlining steps to fast-track development works across the state.
