Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), January 27, 2026: Shimla witnessed rainfall on Tuesday, while tourists continued to await fresh snowfall, even as normal life remained disrupted across Himachal Pradesh due to recent snow and rain.
The local administration has been put on alert following an India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning predicting more precipitation. Road connectivity, power supply and water services have been severely affected in several parts of the state.
Himachal Pradesh Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi said the recent snowfall and rainfall, after a prolonged dry spell, were crucial for farmers and horticulturists. He added that snowfall was recorded in Shimla and Dharamshala, while lower areas received rain, ending drought-like conditions.
However, the adverse weather has also led to major disruptions. As per official data, 711 roads, including three national highways, are currently blocked across Himachal Pradesh.
Besides this, 861 power distribution transformers (DTRs) and around 163 water supply schemes have been affected. Restoration work is underway with machinery and manpower deployed on a war footing.
The minister appealed to residents and tourists to avoid venturing into higher reaches and vulnerable areas, and to follow traffic advisories and safety norms as further snowfall has been forecast.
Meanwhile, tourists in Shimla expressed happiness over the snowy conditions, with several visitors extending their stay amid predictions of more snowfall.
