SAD alleges violence, booth capturing, bogus voting in Ludhiana MC polls
Chandigarh, February 24, 2018: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Saturday alleged the ruling Congress party had resorted to booth capturing and bogus voting during Ludhiana Municipal Corporation polls.
SAD spokesman Dr Daljit Singh Cheema alleged that Congress leaders including Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu and MLA Bharat Bhushan Ashu led mobs of Congressmen into booths to drive out SAD polling agents and indulge in bogus voting.
“The SAD complained about the manner in which Bittu and Ashu went around the city accompanied by police personnel, Congress workers and hired hoodlums and indulged in goondaism but neither the local administration nor the State Election Commission took any action in this regard,” he alleged.
The former minister alleged that incidents of violence and intimidation of SAD workers started before the polling day. He cited number of instances in which he claimed his party’s candidates, polling agents and workers were physically attacked, their vehicles vandalized and hounded out of the polling stations.
The SAD leader also accused the Congress leaders of bringing in “hired” persons from outside Ludhiana district to scare their party cadres and voters to ensure victory of the Congress candidates.
