Deepinder Singh Dhillon after casting his vote at village chatt with family .
Gurdaspur, April 16: Lok Sabha candidate of BJP from Gurdaspur constituency Vinod Khanna today lauded role of women voters in the national scene and added that making women financially independent is the key to the growth of this country and prosperity of the region. Addressing to the voters during he said ‘from the time election campaigning has begun, every leader is talking big – but no one is looking at the problems and issues of women in this constituency. My promise is to bring many projects that are focused on making women self-dependent and employed’. Khanna campaigned today in Tharial, Banwal, Ghoya, Mandwal, and other areas of Pathankot today where he met thousands of enthusiastic women supporters who were eager to talk to him and share their woes. Vinod Khanna promised the women voters that he will work on getting many small scale and handicrafts industries to the region once the BJP government comes to power in the centre. Lashing out at his opponent Pratap Singh Bajwa, he said, that Bajwa and Congress made many promises that never saw the light of the day. ‘Does Bajwa even know the count of women voters in the constituency.’ Industries and employment opportunities will be created for both educated and uneducated women. That apart, skill development and training centres will be established for all, he insisted. This will help women to run their families and contribute towards family income. Speaking about the importance of literacy for women, he said ‘It is absolutely necessary for women to be literate and aware. It is important for their healthy living. To create awareness among the women here, we will have literacy programs across the constituency.’ ‘There will be scholarship programs for girls who are unable to continue their studies due to economic backwardness, so that women contribute towards equal prosperity of the society,’ he added. Speaking on the issue of pension for older women not being delivered, he said ‘Bajwa has done nothing to resolve this issue. He has not empowered our mothers and sisters.’ ‘Bajwa would have known these issues had he been in the constituency. He comes during elections and then goes soon thereafter,’ he added.
