Jalandhar, April 12, 2020: The Virk village which earlier became first containment zone in Jalandhar district after reporting of four positive coronavirus cases, today become first to achieve zero active coronavirus cases with the recovery of all four cases and reporting negative in the two consecutive tests.
Divulging the details, SDM Phillaur Dr Vaneet Kumar said that the report of the fourth patient Sandeep Singh was come negative in two tests following which he was discharged from the civil hospital’ isolation ward.
He said that a few days back, Sandeep’s father Harjinder Singh, mother Baljinder Kaur and brother Hardeep Singh of the same family had already returned home after their reports become negative in subsequent tests.
Senior Medical Officer CHC Bara Pind Dr Jyoti Phokela said that this was possible due to active support of the administration and police teams led by SDM Phillaur Dr Vaneet Kumar and DSP Davinder Singh Attri.
She said that immediate quick contact tracing was carried out once four positive cases reported in the Virk on March 22. These were close contacts of Baldev Singh of SBS Nagar district.
SMO said that Virk is a large village in the subdivision of Phillaur with a population of 4971 and houses numbering 893, which required an extensive exercise and massive team to contain the situation.
Dr Phokela, who supervised entire contact tracing, containment and sending contacts for testing in district hospital exercise, said this has been achieved with efforts of the entire health team and active support of the administration.
"Due to immediate contact tracing, they were able to contain Coronavirus to family only. All contacts numbering around 29 came negative subsequently", she added.
She also told that medical team led by a team of doctors Dr Mohit Chander, Dr Mamta Gautam, Dr Harpreet Kaur, RBSK Dr Baljinder, Dr Tanu and Dr Varun conducted a daily survey to ensure no transmission outside the family.
Health Supervisor Mr Avtar Chand and Mr Kuldeep Verma conducted active tracing of contacts and ensured their transportation to the testing facility.
Dr Phokela told that Local ANM Shashi Bala with support of Asha workers went every house of village screening population of 5 thousand.
She also appreciated work done by a local youth club, other departments for sanitization work
