Fatehgarh Sahib. April.14, 2020: The district administration is fully geared up for the procurement of wheat to begin tomorrow all the arrangements keeping in view the COVID-19 threat have been completed and for the first time the premises of the Rice Mills in the State will be used as procurement centre and most of the Rice Milers have given their consent in this regard, said Deputy Commissioner Amrit Kaur Gill during a meeting convened by Dr. Amar Singh MP, Fatehgarh Sahib attended by Kuljit Singh Nagra MLA Fatehgarh Sahib, Kaka Randeep Singh MLA Amloh, Amneet Kondal SSP, District Food & Civil Supply Controller and all the officers of the procurement agencies here today.
DC told that besides 33 procurement centers 24 Rice mills, who gave the consent would also be used as purchase centers so that the presence of the people in the mandis may remain low which was necessary as a precaution from Covid 19. She said that arrangements have also been made for the proper implementation of the guidelines of the health department. Every person who would come to mandis would be provided mask and proper hand wash including the drinking water and toilet facilities will be ensured.
Dr. Amar Singh MP and MLAs assured the farmers that each grain of wheat will be procured. Capt. Amrinder Singh CM is keeping close watch on the procurement process as it is challenging for the State to procure wheat in such circumstances. He said Arhtiyaas are issuing the tokens to the farmers which would also be used as curfew pass. Farmers would be allowed to bring their crop at the purchase center only on the day mentioned in the token.
