Fatehgarh Sahib. April.15, 2020: Thought the district administration claimed to have made all the arrangements for the smooth procurement of wheat in wake of the COVID-19 threat, but on the opening day of the procurement no farmer brought wheat to grain market. The officials led by Amrit Kaur Gill DC and Amneet Kondal SSP remain present at Sirhind Grain market considered to be the second biggest market in the State. Both of them toured all the 33 grain markets falling in the district to inspect the arrangements of procurement as well as of police deployed to strictly maintain social distancing.
Earlier Dr. Amar Singh MP Fatehgarh Sahiband Kuljit Singh Nagra MLA Fatehgarh Sahib took the meeting of the district officials regarding the arrangements made for the procurement. They urged the officials to ensure that no farmer faces any problem in the mandis and tokens for bringing the wheat should be given to them two days in advance by the commission agents. They also directed the police to strictly implement the guidelines of the health department. Every person who comes to mandis must be provided mask and proper hand wash including the drinking water and toilet facilities.
They assured the farmers that each grain of wheat will be procured. Capt. Amrinder Singh CM is keeping close watch on the procurement process as it is challenging for the State to procure wheat in such circumstances. The Farmers should co-operate with the government to defeat COVID-19 threat.
