Fatehgarh Sahib. April.20, 2020: The procurement of wheat has started amid COVID-19 threat on all the 33 procurement centers falling in the district. Till today10320 MT of wheat arrived at all the 33 grain markets and out of this 8162 MT has been purchased and lifted, said Amrit Kaur Gill Deputy Commissioner after visiting all the procurement centers. She said that PUNGRAIN has purchased 1716 MT, Markfed 3053 MT, Punsup 1807 MT, Warehouse 1326 MT, FCI 260 MT, whereas private traders have not yet started purchasing the wheat. She said that procurement process is going on smoothly and all the directions are being implemented especially social distancing, face masks, gloves by the farmers and labourers. She said police personnel along with officials keep close watch on the procurement process and the farmers bring the wheat as per token system. She said administration has not received any complain from any center. She said payment will be ensured within 48 hours as per government directions. She urged the farmers to strictly follow the guidelines as it is in the interest of all.
Meanwhile on the directions of Kuljit Singh Nagra MLA Fatehgarh Sahib the Chairman of Market Committees Sirhind and Chanarthal along with Mandi Board officials garlanded the farmers who brought the wheat on the opening day just to apprise them that government is there to extend all help to them in the hour of crisis. MLA said that Capt. Amrinder Singh has issued strict instructions that no farmer should suffer in grain markets and every grain of wheat will be procured.
