Nawanshahr, April 29,2020: IMA, Punjabi has lauded the worth emulating gesture exhibited by Johal Hospital, Rama Mandi, Jalandhar by performing last rites of a COVID 19 victim.
It is worthwhile to mention here that a patient, who was admitted to Johal hospital, Rama Mandi, Jalandhar on 21st April 2020 having major complaint of melena and hemoglobin only 3gm. There was no initial suspicion of COVID-19 but later when the suspicion arose as patient devolped pneumonia, the sample was sent on 23rd April 2020 for COVID 19 testing. Unfortunately it came out to be positive.
Such a bad stigma is attached to COVID19, that the attendants of patients didn't claim the dead body and even did not come up to perform his last rites after the Covid results were announced to them. Understanding the responsibility compassionately towards the deceased in this difficult period, Johal Hospital staff with support of district administration completed the last rites of patient's mortal remains with all due respect.
Dr. Navjot Singh Dahiya, President Indian MedicalAssociation,Punjab says that Govt. had advised regular work at pvt. hospital. As the patient was admitted with non covid suspicion which later came out to be covid.
" Private hospitals have a great responsibility in such situations which usually goes unnoticed. Such patients cannot be shifted to civil hospital in this critical condition and hospital owner, doctors, nursing staff all have to go through a mental trauma. Nursing as well as housekeeping Staff have to be assigned in 6 hourly shifts with full PPE. Isolation facility was regularly being provided to staff doing duty in isolation ICU. All the attending doctors and staff have been either self quarantined or provided facility in hospital. This all shows the state of pvt hospital owners. there is the loss of revenue to already revenue deficit (loss of revenue, as health sector facing a lots of challenges). Despite this we understand our social responsibility in this pandemic situation and will do every possible effort to help the society", added Dr. Dahiya.
Dr. Paramjeet Singh Maan, Secretay of IMA Punjab appreciate Dr. B.S. Johal for the exemplary yeoman's service rendered during this grave situation.
