It's e-Learning time, reduce campus presence post-Covid-19, say educationists
Ferozepur, April 29, 2020: As the educational institutions are shut due to deadly Covid-19 threat, educationists are of the overwhelming view that e-Learning should replace classroom teaching.
The present scenario is that parents, educationists, students, and common men are worried about the future of the education system, amid corona-curfew-lockdown posing a big challenge to evolve affordable and reasonable e-learning strategies. It looked that future education will through e-learning without waiting for any disaster in the future by changing the lifestyle.
There is no dearth of resources when most of the government schools and colleges, even private schools, have switched over to online learning courses, educationists are of the view that e-learning should be introduced through free television channels for all classes by reducing the campus timings to give an opportunity to the children to spend quality time at home.
Such steps have to be taken because of lockdown in the wake of the threat of coronavirus spread with an uncertainty of the normal situation in the coming in view of the alarming figures of an increasing number of cases of transmission of virus and deaths.
In fact, India was never prepared with the Covid-hit education sector as this is the first time when education is one of the priorities to compete at the global level. Students were subject to study at the school and college levels and never involved in the self-study system. Almost everyone is coming up with new innovations to cope with the loss of the education system during the lockdown period. The National Digital Library of India has made available a number of learning resources.
The future of IELTS institutions is also unwelcoming as the parents would give a second thought to send their wards in the infected situation in most of the countries which consume more than 7 lakh students every year from India in their Universities and Colleges.
Pareenita, a student of 10th class said, e-learning has created more interest in the study. Our school management took an immediate decision to start online teaching classes. The only thing is – what about those students who don’t have this facility and even can’t afford it. She said it would be better if the CBSE based class channels are started throughout the day for higher classes Plus One onwards as almost every house has TV connected with the cable supplies.
Putting across his view, Dr.Satinder Singh said, the students are now uncertain about their future during the lockdown period. Nothing can replace teachers, in the present circumstances as time has come to be on-line from off-line. The students realizing the gravity of the situation have to maintain self-discipline by making their own time-table. He advised to the on-line teachers to clear the basic concepts within the shortest time reducing the burden of data consumption. Adding, Dr.Satinder said, to reduce the stress among the students while at home, the teachers must suggest some entertainment sites to the students which are virtually informative and educative.
Abhishek Arora, also an educationist said it is a big challenge to our intelligent educationists, to evolve new strategies by learning lessons from pre and post Covid-19 situation keeping in mind the affordability by parents and making available the infrastructure in the market at the reasonable prices within the reach of even common man. I feel that campus timings should be reduced with the start of e-learning to give an opportunity to spend quality time at home with parents and for extracurricular activities in the school/college campus.
An old-timer teacher, M L Tiwari said, the new generation has to change the lifestyle in the changed circumstances. There is no harm to switch over to e-learning in this digital world while sitting at home instead of wasting one year. Our education system is also based on students to listen to lectures, read books and answer the questions based on them.
A veteran S P Khera, President Senior Citizens Forum said, our life is very important; no one wants to die rather like to enjoy the various colors of life. Hardly matters, if one academic session is lost. Moderately, the government itself can think over to write off the academic session-2020.
