Ludhiana, April 29, 2020: In the fight against COVID-19 pandemic Punjab Government has imposed curfew since March 23, 2020 in an effort to break the chain of transmission of the virus and enforce social distancing amongst the citizen. In order to ensure and enforce social distancing, Ludhiana Police is doing tremendous work selflessly round the clock in full capacity, not only in implementation of the Law & Order but also ensuring social welfare of migratory population.
In spite of the numerous appeals to the public in connection with the curfew guidelines some people violated the curfew norms and as a result police had registered 382 FIRs out of which 87 FIRs were registered for opening of shops without orders, 54 for crowding of places, 32 for coming out on Road without Mask, 203 FIRs for other various curfew violations and total of 665 persons were arrested for these violators.
Impounded Vehicles
Ludhiana Police Commissioner Rakesh Agrawal said that total of 14170 persons were taken to Open Jails. Apart from this 6782 traffic challans have been issued in the city against the people who have been found violating the curfew orders without any valid pass or valid reason and out of this 1155 vehicles have also been impounded by the Ludhiana Police.
Ludhiana Police is also helping the administration in feeding the needy and migratory persons daily and has served 46 lakhs cooked food packets and provided 34,874 kits to the needy persons during last 38 days. This is apart from the food packets provided by district civil administration.
CP told that Police also enrolled about 2000 volunteers and used them as Curfew Enforcement officer. People of Ludhiana are also proactively helping police and they have themselves voluntarily sealed their 276 Villages and 1077 Mohallas..
Impounded Vehicles
Fighting this battle Ludhiana Police also lost their brave ACP Anil Kohli who met an untimely death while performaning his difficult duties during the current pandemic. Moreover three brave police personnel of Ludhiana Police who were found Corona positive are still fighting their battle in hospitals.
CP added that Drive against the curfew violators would be continued in same spirit since Punjab Government has imposed the present curfew to ensure the safety and security of the people from the Covid-19 pandemic.
