16TH ‘SHARMIK EXPRESS’ TRAIN WITH 1200 PASSENGERS CHUGS FROM THE CITY STATION TO BARKAKHANA

Jalandhar, May 10, 2020: The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has till Sunday spent Rs 1.09 crore for ensuring free travel to around 20,000 migrants as 16th ‘Shramik Express’ train carrying around 1200 passengers today left the city station for Barkakhana in Jharkhand.
Under this ambitious scheme in which free travel facility was being provided to the migrants desirous to move to their respective states the state government has run first free train to Daltonganj in Jharkhand followed by second to Gajipur and Banaras on May 5, to Lucknow, Gorakhpur and Ayodhya on May 6, to Azamgarh, Darbhanga and Bahraich on May 7, to Sultanpur, Mujaffar Nagar and Akbarpur on May 8, to Kathiyar, Azamgarh and Faizabad on May 9 and to Sultanpur, Barkakhana on May 10 along with that to Gonda later in the evenings. The state government has spent around Rs 1.09 crore to facilitate more than 20,000 migrants for moving to their respective states from the city. The district administration led by Deputy Commissioner Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and Senior Superintendent of Police Navjot Singh Mahal were on their toes to ensure the smooth and hassle free movement of the migrants from the district.
Meanwhile, as soon as the train chugged off from the city Railway station under the Supervision of Deputy Commissioner of Police Balkar Singh, the elated migrants profusely thanked the state government and district administration for ensuring their comfortable, smooth and hassle free journey. They waived off at the Police personnel on duty to express their gratitude to them for making foolproof arrangements for their journey to their native places. Pertinently, the district administration had transported these migrants from transit points via buses of the state transport at the city station after which they were boarded into train for their destination.
