"When the curfew was imposed and schools were closed about one and half month, we were very much concerned about the loss of study of the children as well as feeling it hard to keep them occupied in the houses for such a long period during the pandemic. But, the Education Department's initiative of starting On Line Classes have allayed such fears", says Amarjit Kaur, resident of village Aur while praising the government school teachers, who have not only been taking classes and tests on line but have also organised " Summer Camp" to make the lock down period perfectly enjoyable for them. Apart from keeping the students in touch with their studies , the initiative of organising "Summer Camps" has been helping the students to explore their creative potentialities,She added.
It is worthwhile to mention here that the Education Department , in the wake of the outbreak of pandemic COVID-19, has launched " Ghar Baithe Shikihiya" ( On LIne Education ) , a first of its kind venture to brave the unprecedented challenge. The team of dedicated teachers, in the endeavor, designed audio-video clips and PDF files of the lessons of different subjects according to the prescribed syllabus of different classes . The process of taking "virtual classes" through various social media tools including google drive, u-tube, Whats App groups, radio and TV channels.
While the Education Department has been venturing new innovations to reach out to the students to keep them aware about the precautions to thwart the COVID-19 as well as to curb the apprehension of complacency among the students during lock down, doubts on its efficacy from some quarters are being raised on the pretext that as most of the students of government schools belong to underprivileged sections of the society, hence in the absence of the facility of smart phones, the virtual classes under " Ghar Baithe Shikhiya" programme could not be termed conducive for them.
But, the encouraging response from the students has proved such apprehensions wrong vehemently, thus, rewarding the dedication of the teachers in a noble way.
