Fatehgarh Sahib. May.13, 2020: The 'Shramik Express' train with 930 Manipur residents onboard chugged off from Sirhind station to Manipur. Amrit Kaur Gill Deputy Commissioner along with civil and police officials came to Railway Station to see off them. She said that the State government is bearing the expenses of their travelling and paid approximately Rs.11lakh to the Railway. She said that as per the set procedure the migrants have boarded this train after completing all the formalities like registration and the medical screening. She said that all the Manipur residents residing in 18 districts of the state, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and UT Chandigarh were brought to the railway station Sirhind through special Buses and they boarded the train for Manipur. She said that all the precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 were ensured including the social distance.
Interestingly to facilitate the migrants the district administration provided packed food, water and biscuits to them and chocolates to their children. District Magistrate had ordered the closer of all the shops and bazaars around Railway Station Sirhind on both sides. Earlier Sharmik Express train carried 1320 migrants chugged off for Gorakhpur taking the total number of workers, who left from Sirhind to 2250.
