100th Shramik Special Train moved from Ludhiana to Mau
Ferozepur, May 14, 2020: Today, 100th Shramik Special train moved from Ludhiana to Mau carrying 1200 passengers. It includes 70 trains from Ferozepur Division and 21 from Ambala Division, ferrying around 1.4 lakh passengers.
As per the information, more than 10 lakh migrant labour is working in Punjab and around 1.60 lakh have registered for going back to their home towns, out of so far, 1.4 lakh have been shifted with the movement of 100th train.
Divulging more, DRM Ferozepur Division, Rajesh Aggarwal informed that 87 Shramik special trains have moved from Ferozepur rail division up to May 14, which include 35 Jalandhar, 43 Ludhiana, 8 Amritsar and one from Ferozepur, ferrying around 1.4 lakh migrant workers to different states of Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh and Andhra Pradesh. One such train which has moved from Ferozepur was up to Kanpur.
DRM said, we had been planning the operation of special trains as per the indents of the state governments by following the guidelines of the Ministry of Health. While 85 percent cost of the running of a train has been borne by the railways, the rest of the amount has been contributed by the state government. During the journey, arrangements for food, water, etc. have also been made at certain stations besides accompanying RPF staff for the safe journeys up to the destination of the trains.
