Acquires more railway rakes to cater to outbound migrant load
1501 leave for four districts of Bihar
SAS Nagar, May 14, 2020: Rising up to the challenge of sending over sixty thousand migrants to their respective home towns, Mohali Administration has successfully sent back nearly fifteen thousand in a week. Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan said * “we have complied the data, worked out on the statistics and have prepared the district wise departure schedule for the entire population of outbound migrants; initially those districts were catered wherein large chunk of people wanted to go like Hardoi in UP and thereafter people from multiple adjacent destinations are being sent in via special trains.’’*
“With the restoration of activity in labour intensive industrial and construction sectors coupled with job opportunity in the ensuing paddy transplantation period, the drop-off rate of migrants registered for travelling back , is increasing; daily over thirty percent migrants decline to go back,” said Girish. As of now we are fully geared to cater to the all those who are desirous of going back. Infact, we are also going to extend boarding facility from Mohali to the migrants from Ropar and Nawanshahar who seek to go to same destination as slated by Mohali Administration, he added.
Likewise, smaller number of people from Mohali who want to go to a destination not in current schedule of administration are being sent off in trains from the neighbouring districts going to that destination, said Girish. He informed that 225 migrants were sent via buses to Sirhind on Wednesday to head towards Manipur and Andhra Pradesh while about 900 others will go to Madhya Pradesh on Friday. Besides, people seeking to go back on private vehicles are also being issued permission after due screening.
Dual screening of all the migrants, once at the collection centre and once at railway station is being done. They are ferried in buses, free of cost from collection centres to railway station and are provided with food, water and biscuits, by the district administration. The exercise has been so well worked out and flawlessly executed that daily departures have always been precisely on time.
The Eighth special train which left the Mohali Railway Station for Bihar on Thursday, carried 1501 migrant workers back to their home state. The train had increased number of bogies and would have intermittent stoppages at Katihar, Patna, Champaran and Barauni.
