Fatehgarh Sahib. May.16, 2020: Department of Agriculture, progressive farmers and Farmer’s Welfare clubs celebrated the Earth Day under the aegis of Dr. Inderpal Singh Sandhu, Chief Agriculture Officer here today. The officers from agriculture and allied departments on this eve took the oath to make earth beautiful, healthy and enriched biodiversity, to maintain earth a better place to live in, to save water and to maximize green cover on earth.
Dr. Sandhu stressed upon the need of new technique DSR, Bed plantation and paddy transplanting to maintain soil fertility and excessive water loss due to traditional method of paddy cultivation. He stressed to plant different types of trees to maintain a balance in ecosystem. He said that this will be the true obeisance to the martyrs of nation and state and also enhance the aesthetic value of district. He advised the conservation of various birds and organisms in order to enrich the biodiversity naturally, as the application of chemical fertilizers, alone, cannot determine the food security.
He appreciated and thanked the COVID-19 frontline workers viz. Doctors, Police force, Para-medical staff and also encouraged the agri-technocrats to become India’s frontline workers on food security issue. He thanked the farmers and labourers of the state for making India a food secure nation.
Progressive farmers of the district appealed to the Govt. to acknowledge the services of the agri-technocrats impart in the welfare of farming community and to provide all necessary support and facilities to them.
Each officer was wearing white coat with official departmental logos printed on it and was the main attraction of the event. Balvir Singh Jariya, progressive farmer were present and shared their views.
