1.64 lakh migrant workers moved in 137 Shramik trains moved since May 5
Ferozepur: 6th Shramik Express train with 1,200 migrant workers departs for Bihar-Kishanganj
Ferozepur, May 17, 2020: Today, 6th Shramik Express train moved from Ferozeur ferrying 1,200 migrant workers for Bihar-Kishanganj.
Earlier five such trains had chugged off from Ferozepur Cantt railway stations with migrant workers from 8 districts of Malwa and one district from Majha.
Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur Kulwant Singh informed that the cost of operation of this train of Rs.8.64 lakh has been borne by the Punjab government. Earlier, around 6,000 migrant workers had moved in five trains from Ferozepur in Uttar Pradesh. Today, one train has moved for Bihar with 1,200 migrants.
He said only those migrant workers were allowed to board who had got themselves registered on the portal and got confirmation through SMS, after proper screening by the health department as per the medical protocol under Covid-19 besides making all adequate arrangements for their convenience, at the railway station and maintaining of social distancing.
DRM Ferozepur Rajesh Aggarwal informed that as of today, 137 Shramik special trains have moved since May 5, from Ferozepur division, ferrying 1.64 lakh migrant workers to different states from Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar and Ferozepur Cantt. The escorting by RPF jawans was also ensured for a safe journey up to the destination of migrant workers.
Amit Gupta, SDM Ferozepur and Ashok Behal, Secretary Red Cross were also present on this occasion, to supervise the entire operations.
