24x7 manning of the entry points, distilleries and bottling plants
Additional force sought from the Police Department
S. A. S. Nagar, May 18, 2020: A strict vigil would be maintained in the district to check the sale of illicit liquor/bootlegging. 24x7 manning of all the entry points shall be done by a joint team of Police and Excise, informed Girish Dayalan , Deputy Commissioner SAS Nagar.
He said that Mohali has a unique position being part of the Tri-City and bordering the UT of Chandigarh and State of Haryana. Further, as liquor is comparatively cheaper in these States, post relaxation in curfew/lock-down, there is a possibility of bringing in liquor from these places. So, surveillance of all the entry points is mandatory as they are not only an entry into Mohali but a gateway into the State of Punjab.
Formal orders for the same have been issued and additional requirement of force has been communicated to the Director General of Police.
Also, the field teams headed by the Excise Inspectors, Halqa Patwaris and Panchayat Secretaries would survey old buildings, marriage palaces, rice sellers, road side dhabas, godowns, cold storages and slums where there is likelihood of storage of illicit liquor.
The Lambardars shall also be responsible for reporting storage and movement of illicit liquor within and to/from their respective villages. The district head GOG would ensure strict vigil on the same in their areas.
Further, to check the pilferage, the distilleries and the bottling plants shall be jointly manned by a team of police and excise. Strict watch would also be kept on outward movement of trucks and ensure that they carry the required documents such as bills, bilty and e-waybill.
