Jalandhar, May 19, 2020: Lok Sabha MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh and MLA Hardev Singh Laddi Sherowalia today reviewed the Flood Control arrangements in the light of contingent plan prepared by all the departments, in the possibility of any flood like situation in the district.
Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Varinder Kumar Sharma and Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Navjot Singh Mahal, the Lok Sabha MP and MLA chaired a high level meeting of all the departments here at District Administrative complex.
During the meeting the MP and MLA under scored the need to put in place a viable mechanism for completing all the flood control arrangements. They said that elaborate arrangements must be put in place to ensure that no flood takes place in the district. They also asked the officers to jointly visit the flood prone areas and start the strengthening work, wherever required, along with the river Satluj.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner and Senior Superintendent of Police said that due to heavy snowfall in hilly areas during the winter season, the district administration was already vigil so as to avoid any sort of untoward incident of floods in the summer and rainy season. Sharma and Mahal also directed the officials to strengthen flood prone sensitive places to minimize damage in the possibility of excess water being released from the water reservoir. They assured the MP and MLA that the district administration would make adequate arrangements to meet any sort of flood like situation in wake of rainy season.
Prominent amongst other present on the occasion included Additional Deputy Commissioner Jasbir Singh, Sub Divisional Magistrates Amit Kumar, Dr. Sanjiv Sharma and Dr. Vineet Kumar, District Revenue Officer Jashanjit Singh and others were also present.
