Nagar, June 10, 2020: "The Punjab Labour Welfare Board is fully committed to the welfare of the labour class especially in the wake of the present corona crisis as the welfare and raising standard of living of labourers also occupies priority slot in the Mission Fateh initiative." This was disclosed here today by the Chairman of the board Mr. Hari Singh Tohra during the first meeting of the newly constituted Board of Members of the Punjab Labour Welfare Board.
Disclosing about the various welfare centric schemes of the board aimed at the welfare of registered industrial labourers as well as their families, Labour Commissioner, Punjab, and Member Secretary of the board Mr. Praveen Thind said that the board provides scholarships for the children of the labourers engaged in various industrial establishments, provides shagan of Rs. 31,000 for the marriage of the daughter of industrial labourers.
The board also gives ex gratia grant of Rs. 2 lakh in case of accidental death and Rs. 1.50 lakh in case of natural death, Rs. 2 lakh in case the beneficiary is 100 percent disabled, Reimbursement for the industrial labourers and their dependents for general surgery (Rs. 20000) and treatment of dangerous diseases (Rs. 1 lakh), Financial assistance for specs in case of weak eyesight, hearing aid and dentures, LTC facility for industrial labourers at the rate of Rs. 2000, Loan at zero interest for purchasing computer, motorcycle, electronic Scooty, Bicycle, Sewing Machine, Fan, TV, Marriage of girl, Purchasing wheat and Fridge, Financial assistance of Rs. 20000 for cremation, and Rs. 20000 for taking care of the children of the labourers suffering from disability or psychological illness besides Rs. 21000 per child to the women working in the industrial establishments as maternity assistance.
He reiterated that since the industrial workers are the backbone of the economic structure of Punjab, the board would always put into practice the plans aimed at their welfare.
Among other dignitaries present on the occasion included the Vice Chairman of the Board and the Additional Chief Secretary, Labour V. K. Janjua, and representatives from finance and industry departments.
