Fatehgarh Sahib. June.13.
A mega Pharma Park Project to be set up over 130 Acre of land at village Wazirabad in Fatehgarh Sahib constituency by the Punjab Small Industries and Export Corporation (PSIEC) has generated controversy as PSIEC got the land registered at their name from the village panchyat at the cost of Rs.39.5 Lakh per Acre and paid Rs. 51.35 Crore to village Panchyat and took the possession by putting wire fence with the help of the Police.
The AAP leaders led by Harpal Singh Cheema Leader of Opposition lodged protest against the transfer of panchyat land to PSIEC alleging the land was transferred against the consent of the villagers and panchyat members and without following proper procedure.
Interestingly reacting to the protest organised by AAP activists led by Harpal Cheema leader of opposition, hundreds of villagers accompanied by the Sarpanches, Presidents of Co-operative societies and Congress workers from adjoining villages today gathered at the village to celebrate the setting up of Mega Pharma Park and raised slogans against the AAP leaders by carrying black flags for opposing the setting up of mega project in their area.
Meanwhile MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra reacting to the protest by AAP leaders said that he had worked hard dedicatedly and honestly to get the project sanctioned. He said that vested interests backed by opposition leaders were going to grab panchyati land and had made documents in this, but he foiled their attempt. He said that he has proofs and recordings of vested interests and will make public at appropriate time, who had been demanding a huge amount to favour this project.
While talking to media Bhupinder Singh Badochi Chairman Panchyati Raj Organisation, Sarpanch Devinder Singh Jallah said that the mega Pharma Park project is one of the biggest projects to be set up in the State and a major achievement for the area as it is going to generate great avenues for employment resulting in accelerating the growth of the area. They alleged that the leaders of the opposition are protesting just for the sake of opposition without verifying the facts as they have been misled by the vested interests.
Interestingly this ambitious project could come into existence only with the efforts of Kuljit Singh Nagra MLA and Amrit Kaur Gill Deputy Commissioner who worked as a team at every level to get this project cleared. MLA was after the project since long and he faced opposition from local villagers owing allegiance to opposition parties, but he continued his efforts at every level and his recent lunch meeting with CM paved the way for getting the land registered and taking the possession.
It is worth mentioning that an integrated Pharma Cluster will cater to the need of especially the bulk Drug segment and is considered as a unique model with major utilities and services and a pharma resource center under shared/ common facilities, which will reduce the capex and opex of resident units up to 40 to 45 %. The sources further said that some of the stakeholders like Ind. Swift Laboratories Limited has expressed willingness to get 50 Acre of land and Vivachem Intermediates Private Limited have expressed its interest to purchase 30 Acre of Land.
The sources told that the State government has sought the Union Government’s approval to turn the Pharma Park into a mega pharma park under the new central government scheme.
