Fatehgarh Sahib. June 14, 2020: Department of physiotherapy, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib organized a special webinar on the topic “Awareness about cancer: symptoms, diagnosis and treatment. The webinar was presided over by Vice chancellor of the University, Dr. Prit Pal Singh. Dr. Singh congratulated Dr. Gautam Goyal and physiotherapy department for organizing the webinar and emphasized that as the incidence of cancer is increasing rapidly, it is important to step up cancer literacy and knowledge amongst the population. Dr. Gautam Goyal, consultant Medical and Haemato-oncologist at Max Hospital, Mohali was the resource person for the webinar. Dr. Goyal discussed prevention, self-examination methods, warning signs and symptoms, investigations, recent management strategies and prognosis of the most common cancers such as cancer of the breast, cervix, oral, lung and colon cancers.
Dr. Supreet Kaur Bindra, Assistant Professor, Department of Physiotherapy, as moderator for the webinar welcomed Vice chancellor of the University, panellists and all the participants to the webinar and highlighted that though the incidence of cancer is rising throughout the globe and has been perceived to be a dreadful disease and is often considered as the end of life, there is other side of the coin where we are generally not told about the success stories due to early diagnosis or proper treatment. In this webinar more than 1500 participants, from India as well as abroad, actively participated in the webinar. The presentation of Dr. Goyal was preceded by an exhaustive question answer session. Dr Pankajpreet Singh, In-charge, Department of Physiotherapy presented vote of thanks at the end of event and also thanked fellow faculty members and all the participants for their valuable presence and precious time and also the technical team members Dr Shruti Aggarwal and Mr. Rajvir Dhanjal for successful organization of this webinar.
