Amritsar, June 14, 2020: Police have lodged FIR here on the basis of online complaint against unknown persons who had opposed cremation of former Hazuri Ragi of Golden Temple at the cremation ground of village Verka on April 2 when he succumbed to COVID 19.
Confirming the registration of FIR against Unknown persons here today, SHO Police Station Verka Mr. Nishan Singh said, three complainants Dr. Amarjit Singh from district Sangrur, Kuldip Singh from Ludhiana and Parminder Singh from Nawa Shehar have filed online complaint to DGP Punjab Police and Commissioner of Police Amritsar to register FIR against the certain residents of Verka village who had allegedly prevented the administration to perform last rites of Padam Shree Ragi Nirmal Singh.
SHO said that yet in this regard no one has been arrested, since investigation was underway which couldn’t be completed due to lockdown. He said during investigation police would bring out the truth why certain people had prevented the administration to perform the last rites of Ragi Nirmal Singh at the cremation ground of village Verka. It was also matter of investigation to find out the faces who had allegedly locked the door of cremation ground of Verka village. Complainants in FIR in their statement to police said that a sever disrespect was deliberately shown to noble soul after his demise.
It may be added here that after facing severe opposition from public of Verka village, the mortal remains of former Hazuri Ragi were consigned to flames at village Shukarchak outskirt area of the city
Nirmal Singh was undergoing treatment for corona virus when died here. The 62-year-old ''Gurbani'' exponent had recently returned from abroad and tested positive for COVID 19.
