Fatehgarh Sahib. June.25, 2020: In a bloody clash over the possession of panchyat land, one Congress supporter was killed and the Congress Sarpanch along with four of his supporters were seriously injured, when the sons of District President of SAD (B) Swarn Singh Chanarthal along with their supporters opened indiscriminate firing and attacked them with swords and Lathis last late evening at village Chanarthal Khurd, when the Sarpanch along with supporters had gone to take the possession of panchyat land. The deceased has been identified as Kulwinder Singh former panch, he was the only son of the family and is survived by his wife and 6 year old son. Amneet Kondal SSP accompanied by Harpal Singh SP (Investigation) and other police officials reached the spot.
District Police on the complaint of Gurbaj Singh alias Raju Sarpanch of village Chanarthal Khurd has registered FIR number 0066 u/s 302, 307, 324, 323, 506, 148, 149, 120-B IPC and 25, 27 Arms Act against Balwinder Singh, Gurmukh Singh both sons of Jathedar Swarn Singh Chanarthal District President SAD (B), Arshdeep Singh, Kulwant Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Gurmukh Singh, Gurjit Singh and Jassa all residents of village Chanarthal Khurd.
In the FIR lodged with Mulepur Police Station Gurbaj Singh alias Raju Sarpanch of village Chanarthal Khurd mentionsed that Gurmukh Singh former Sarpanch of the village during his tenure got the panchyat land transfer on the name of one Bhagwant Singh resident of Bhagrana. He along with Kulwinder Singh deceased filed a writ petition in the High Court and court stayed the transfer of land. He said that today he along with other panchyat members had gone to inspect the land and in the meantime both the sons of Jathedar Swarn Singh accompanied by others came in cars and tractor armed with weapons and swords and started firing and their other companions attacked us with swords and Lathis. Kulwinder Singh and Sukhwinder Singh got fire injuries, whereas Gurinder Singh, Jagtar Singh Panch got serious injuries. He said they all were rushed to civil hospital Fatehgarh Sahib, where Kulwinder Singh former panch succumbed to injuries. All the accused fled away from the scene.
SSP Amneet Kondal said that FIR has been registered and police is conducting raids to nab the accused as all have fled away. She said they will be arrested soon.
MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra reached the hospital and condemned the incident. He said that Akalis are habitual of grabbing lands and it is the height of Gunda Gardi.
The dead body of deceased Kulwinder Singh was handed over to relatives after post-mortem and cremated in the evening amid tight security attended by a large number of villagers and MLA Kuljit Nagra.
