Both the sons of SAD District President accused of murdering Congress worker and injuring five persons including the Sarpanch of village Chanarthal Khurd allegedly by opening firing and attacking victims with Lathis, when they came to take possession of village panchayat land, today surrendered in the court of CJM Fatehgarh Sahib. Whereas SAD District President Swarn Singh Chanarthal, whose name does not figure in the FIR but had also been nominated as co-accused u/s 120B is still at large. Both the sons Balwinder Singh and Gurmukh Singh were sent on police remand till 3rd July.
Harpal Singh SP (Investigation) said that both the sons of Swaran Singh District President SAD along with their supporters were involved in a clash over the possession of panchayat land. They along with their supporters killed a Congress supporter and injured the Sarpanch, Panch and four of his supporters. He said that five accused had already been arrested and two have surrendered today and now only one out of 8 mentioned in FIR and co-accused Swarn Singh are at large. He said police are conducting raids to nab them.
He said that on the complaint of Gurbaj Singh alias Raju Sarpanch of village Chanarthal Khurd FIR was registered u/s 302, 307, 324, 323, 506, 148, 149, 120-B IPC and 25, 27 Arms Act against Balwinder Singh, Gurmukh Singh both sons of Jathedar Swarn Singh Chanarthal District President SAD (B), Arshdeep Singh, Kulwant Singh, Jagdeep Singh, Gurmukh Singh, Gurjit Singh and Jassa all residents of village Chanarthal Khurd.
