Fatehgarh Sahib, July 01, 2020: A special team constituted by the Deputy Commissioner led by Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Sharma SDM Fatehgarh Sahib today conducted surprise checking of the Chemists shops in Sirhind and Fatehgarh Sahib area specially the shops situated in front of Civil Hospital Fatehgarh Sahib as the complaints of high prices of masks, sanitizers and certain medicines being charged by the Chemists. The team also raided illegally constructed quarters for labourers and kept them in unhygienic condition without informing administration and owners were booked.
SDM said that they have conducted surprise checking of almost all the main Chemist shops specially the shops situated in front of civil hospital and checked their stock and verified from the customers present there, if they are charging high rates, but they did not get any complaint from any customer. He said that chemists were warned not to charge high rates amid COVID threat rather they should help the needy as all are facing problems in this hour of crisis.
Later SDM accompanied by PSPCL Officials, police and excise department conducted raids in pearl colony, Naino Colony and other colonies on the complaints of its residents regarding COVID threat from the migrant labourers residing there in illegally constructed accommodations. Hundreds of labourers were found living in very unhygienic condition in approximately 40 very congested rooms constructed illegally without providing any civic amenities. Moreover the power supply was given illegally and the PSPCL Officials immediately disconnected the power supply and police rounded up some of the migrants living there for investigation. An FIR was registered u/s 188, 270 IPC, 51 Disaster Management Act 2005 against the owners Navjivanjot Singh resident of Village Ferozepur, Rashpal Singh resident of village Chanarthal Kalan, Bikram Pal Singh resident of Modern Valley and Sukhwinder Singh village Fatehpur Rayian.
