Rajindra Hospital Becomes a Ray of Hope for Other Districts of Punjab too
Patiala, August 06, 2020: The Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala has emerged as a beacon of hope for the Mild and critical COVID infected patients. Critically ill patients from many districts of Punjab (Ludhiana, Nawanshahr, Mohali, Fatehgarh Sahib, Mansa, Sangrur, Barnala and some districts of Haryana) are also being referred here for Level-3 medical care here.
Govt. Rajindra Hospital's Covid Care Incharge Surbhi Malik, Chief Administrator Patiala Development Authority and Additional Secretary Medical Education and Research, said here today that 600 (350 MCH and 250 of Super Speciality block) have been set up at Govt. Rajindra Hospital for the care of COVID-19 patients including 54 beds equipped with ventilator facility.
Mrs. Surbhi Malik further said that due to being a 'Tertiary Care Institution', critically ill patients from most of the districts of the state were being referred here, due to which doctors had to work hard to save the most critically ill patients.
Rajindra Hospital has about 250 Doctors and interns, 85 staff nurses and about 100 class four, who are working round the clock in shifts to take care of the CORONAVIRUS patients. She said that 6 doctors, 6 staff nurses and 6 class four were working in one shift in the ward set up on the 8th floor for critically ill patients while requisite staff was also deputed at third, fourth and fifth floor who are engaged in the care of positive patients kept in the hospital. He said that arrangements have been made to accommodate the suspected COVID patients on the 7th floor.
According to Mrs. Malik, in view of the problem of doctors staying in PPE kits for a long time, it has been decided to provide them with two kits in one shift and a 30 minute break during duty so that they can re-visit the ward after the break. She said that today there are 169 patients undergoing treatment for covid, out of which only one is on ventilator.
She added that despite the positive results of three couples of doctors in the hospital, the doctor and the other medical and para medical staff were working with full
vigor. She appealed to the social media users not to demoralize these front line warriors by posting negative posts on their social media accounts rather they should post positive ones to encourage them. She said that in these difficult times, there may be a few shortcomings in every organization which could be rectified by informing us instead of highlighting them on social media platforms.
Divulging information about the food to be provided to the patients, she said that apart from two times of tea in the morning and evening, breakfast, lunch and dinner suggested by 'nutritionist', milk has also been provided with breakfast and dinner .
She said that in view of the difficulty in timely care of the corpses, the capacity of the mortuary has been increased from 8 to 24 and every effort has been made to send the body to the mortuary as soon as possible.
