SSP Says concerned DSP to lead special teams to uproot bootlegging & smuggline
GIVES BREAKUP OF SEIZURE OF ILLICIT LIQUOR AND DRUGS TILL DATE
HOSHIARPUR, AUGUST 08, 2020: With a view to taking bootleggers and liquor peddlers to task, the District Police has chalked out a comprehensive action plan to tackle illicit liquor trade and smuggling of liquor.
According to SSP Navjot Singh Mahal, six sub-division level special police teams have been constituted each under a DSP to launch an action oriented crackdown against such anti-social elements. He said that besides DSPs these teams would comprise of SHO concerned.
The SSP said that these said teams had been briefed via a special training session regarding the secrecy and object of operation so that effective operations could be ensured. He further pointed out that those involved in such illegal activities would not be spared at any cost. Mahal said that special nakas including night nakas were being arranged by these teams besides conducting raids in wee hours to nab the smugglers. He said that these raids would be conducted under the supervision of DSP along with concerned SHO and other officials. He said that checking had already been intensified at inter-state and inter district border to keep a close tab on such practices.
Giving breakup of seizure of illicit liquor in eight days from July 30 to August 6, Mahal said that tightening noose against this practice as many as 36 cases with 32 arrests have been made under the Excise Act besides seizing 324 litre illegal liquor, 753 litre licit liquor and 13,900 kilo of Lahan. He said that the district police had also nabbed a Proclaimed Offender Sandeep Kumar in August 4, who was booked under Excise Act at Police Station Bullowal on October 26, 2013.
Apart from this, as many as 248 cases have been registered from January 1 to August 6 by apprehending 297 persons. Similarly, 1.37 crore litre of illicit liquor has been seized as well as two working brewing units, 33900 kilo Lahan and 1.20 crore ML of licit liquor, said the SSP.
ARRESTS 207 PERSONS WITH BIG HAUL OF DRUGS TILL JULY 31
Navjot Singh Mahal further added that the district police had also taken stringent action against drug peddler and arrested 207 persons following the registration of 140 FIRs till July 31 this. He said that as per the directives of the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and DGP Dinkar Gupta ‘zero tolerance’ against drugs was also being adopted in the district. He said that the district police had recovered 1881-kg poppy husk, 673gm heroin, 1.7kg opium, 1.420 kg Ganja, 6.kg intoxicant powder and 5794 psychotropic substances including capsules and tablets.
CONDUCTING JOINT RAIDS
SSP said that joint teams of police and Excise Officers were leaving no stone unturned to put the perpetrators of illicit liquor trade and smuggling behind bars. He said that the concerted efforts of Police and Excise teams had registered a major success recently in the district especially in the mand area fallen in Tanda.
