Fatehgarh Sahib, August 12, 2020: The District CIA Staff accompanied by Excise staff recovered 35 cases of IMFL meant for sale in Haryana during a naka erected on Anaj Mandi area of Amloh town and arrested two smugglers.
Amneet Kondal SSP said that District police have initiated a drive in the district to tighten the noose around bootleggers & smugglers involved in illegal sale of liquor and nakas are being set up in the district and surprise checking of road side dhabas to stop pilferage of illicit liquor is being carried out.
She said at the naka police intercepted a car number PB-10CQ-2221 and the driver tried to flee but was over powered during search police recovered 35 cases for sale in Haryana. She said that smugglers have been identified as Ramnit Sharma resident of Malerkotla road Khanna city and Jagjiwan Kumar resident of Village Bagli kalan, samrala, Khanna. They have been booked under section 61/1/14 of Excise Act.
She said besides this district police have registered 122 cases and arrested 128 bootleggers and smugglers. She said that police have recovered 4354 liters of illicit liquor, 1275 Kg. Lahan and unearthed 5 running still (Bhatian) used to manufacture illicit liquor and recovered utensils and drums.
She said the police are also conducting raids at various hideouts and godowns of the smugglers. She called upon the people to come forward and to provide information to the police about the illegal activities of illicit sale of liquor in their respective areas and the identity of the informers will be kept secret. She warned the bootleggers and smugglers to stop their illegal activities otherwise they will be taken to task.
