Bikram S Majithia says programme could not have been held without the blessings of CM and PCC chief)
Chandigarh, August 16, 2020: Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked Congress President Sonia Gandhi to explain why she was trying to ignite a fire in Punjab by encouraging Congressmen to indulge in provocative activities aimed at inflaming Sikh sentiments and disturbing the hard-won peace in the State.
In a statement here, former minister Bikram Singh Majithia said it was shocking that Congressmen who swore allegiance to Sonia Gandhi had celebrated the birthday of Jagdish Tytler, the butcher of Delhi who indulged in the 1984 genocide against Sikhs, in the holy city of Sri Amritsar Sahab besides putting up posters of Tytler in the city. “A conspiracy is afoot to take Punjab back to an era of darkness and the Congress high command under Sonia Gandhi has lent legitimacy to this move by giving the green signal for celebrating the birthday of a most hated figure in the holy city”. He said earlier also the Congress party had protected and rehabilitated Congmen like Sajjan Kumar and Kamal Nath whose hands were stained with the blood of innocents. The Sikh community will not allow such conspiracies to succeed”.
Asserting that chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Pradesh Congress President Sunil Jakhar had implemented the Congress President’s directions by allowing the vice chairman of its SC Cell to host the inflammatory programme, Mr Majtihia said “such a programme could not have occurred in Punjab without the blessings of the chief minister and the Pradesh Congress President”.
Asking the chief minister not to patronize Congressmen who were playing with fire, the SAD leader demanded that a criminal case be registered against all those who had held the programme for hurting religious sentiments of the Sikh community. He said simultaneously the PCC chief should expel all the Congressmen who had participated in the programme. “Exemplary action should also be taken against police and intelligence officials who failed in their duty and allowed a felicitation programme of a person accused of mass murder of Sikhs. Such a programme could not have been held without the complicity of the police force”.
Mr Majithia said in case appropriate action was not taken and the culprits behind this inflammatory act were not booked and arrested, the SAD would be constrained to launch an agitation to ensure justice in the case. He said the chief minister should not let his personal friendship with Jagdish Tytler come in the way while taking decisions in the case. “It is a known fact that Capt Amarinder Singh has defended Tytler on numerous occasions, including in the Vidhan Sabha, but the chief minister’s clean chit is in direct contrast to eye witness accounts of victim families who have asserted that Tytler led mobs who burnt Sikhs and razed gurdwaras and Sikh establishments”.
