Fatehgarh Sahib, August 17, 2020: MLA Fatehgarh Sahib Kuljit Singh Nagra in a letter to Chief Minister has urged him to call a special session of Assembly to pass a resolution unanimously against the arbitrary decisions of the Union Government for forcible implementation of the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion & Facilitation) Ordinance 2020 and other two ordinances, which will prove doom for the farming community, so to save the livelihood of the farmers and the economy of the State.
He has mentioned in the letter that he has also written an open letter to the Prime Minister in this regard. He said that it is unfortunate that the Union government issued three ordinances under the garb of its novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) relief package which will have far reaching implications. He said that these ordinances are being forced on the states, which is clear infringement of the federal structure of India, as Agriculture is the State subject. He said that the forcible implementation of these ordinances shall not only create distress among the farmers but have ramifications for whole of the economy and has potential of causing lawlessness in the State, which has already suffered a lot in the past.
He said that in these circumstances,we cannot let the farmers be at the mercy of private traders / big corporate houses and must actively intervene to ensure survival of our farmers, economy of the state and to preserve peace and harmony. He called upon all the political parties, farmer’s, social organizations and whole of the Punjab to come together for a concerted struggle to save Punjab and its farmers from enslavement and destruction.
He said that being an elected representative it is his duty to bring in the notice of the CM that the brewing resentment of masses may be gauged and toimmediately call theSpecial Assembly session to decide future course of struggle to lead the state to come out of doldrums for the sake of Punjab and its future generations.
